Job Title: Assistant Translator
Ref: FNT- AT 2012
The Person will:
Assisting the Translator in responding to translation and interpretation needs from the Network as may be required in order to maintain fair communication with FEMNET’s Francophone and Anglophone constituencies;
Assisting the Translator in ensuring the timely availability of all FEMNET’s communication products, Programmeme/ project outputs in both English and French;
Assisting the Translator in facilitating communications in all forms (phone, Skype, e-mails etc) during various events
Assisting the Translator in ensuring quality interpretation and translation work from consultants, including through proofreading and/or editing their work as may be required, so that FEMNET bilingual products maintain professional standards;
Taking up any other relevant duties assigned.
We are looking for:
a relevant bachelors degree from recognized university, proficiency in French and English;
minimum experience of three years in translation and /or interpretation in a busy environment preferably in regional or international organizations;
a sound knowledge of relevant computer software ,e.g. MS Office and CAT tools;
proven ability to work effectively with deadlines;
an excellent eye for detail, style and usage in both French and English;
high sense of self-supervision and organizational and time management skills;
knowledge of issues that FEMNET engages in such as gender and human rights is an added advantage;
Knowledge of additional languages (Portuguese, Arabic) will be an added advantage.
