PURPOSE OF POSITION:

o Community Based Disaster Management and Risk Reduction:
* Promote community capacity building tools like the COVACA / VACAs in National Offices and maintain a TOR / Guidelines for Community DPPs.
* Manage the HEA’s leadership of the Community DPP initiative in NOs through training, creating awareness of, implementation and reporting on Community DPP trials and the development of capacity in each NO to maintain the strategy independently.
* Promote a vision and corporate culture for community based Disaster Management in NOs.

o Capacity Resource Bank:
* Establish and make available a resource bank of training modules, relief tool kits, information and research material in electronic, visual, audio and hard copy formats to the HEAT, HEARRT, NOs and ADPs.
* Establish and maintain an ideas and information exchange available to all African HEA practitioners and decision-makers.

o Engage in HEA Capacity Building Networks:
* Represent the HEAT on all appropriate HEA and related capacity building networks in the Partnership and in the Region.
* Work with Regional and NO Human Resource departments and other HEA staff to build the disaster management capacity of NO and RO staff.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Brief Description

Detailed Description



§ Ensure all relevant documentation and pre-alerts are provided by the user desks to ensure smooth and fast clearance of shipments.

§ Ensure for all shipment types the process for clearing is articulated and well understood by the team

§ Provide day to day support to the AOG team to ensure to meet 4 hrs delivery KPI

§ Keep contacts for all authorities who make decisions at the airport for customs to facilitate quick intervention to support the C&F team.

§ Ensure all documentation and accounts for the SHEDS used are up to date and proper credit facility provided to KQ

§ For import Sea freight shipments ensure process fully documented and understood by the team.

§ Ensure on a daily basis that the C&F team keep the department tracker fully updated.

§ Ensure all reports are fully updated and reflecting 100% correct information these include AOG, import and export status reports.



· Manage the team to ensure all KPI’s are exceeded and met.

Detailed Description



· To recycle all offloads of amenity Materials, Blankets and Headsets from all incoming flights and repacking as per the loading standards for outgoing flights to ensure maximum recovery of recyclable materials as a cost saving/cutting initiative for flight operation spent.

· Pack new materials into standard loads per aircraft type and capacity for the day’s flight operations as per the daily mayfly, to ensure our passengers’ requirements for comfort are met on board our flights.

· Co-ordinate with Laundry Team, the cleaning and availability of cleaned blankets, as per the daily mayfly, so as to ensure no flight leaves without the standard blanket loads.

· Coordinate with the In-Flight materials supplies officers for stock replenishment at the sub stores to ensure not stock outs are experienced.

* To record all materials stock movement between the sub-store and the flights operations, to ensure accountability of stocks is maintained, at all times.
* To record all discrepancies between load sheets, blanket loading books and blanket physical stocks from the sub-store to flights and back, to ensure route statistics for losses are maintained for corrective action by the respective functional areas.
* To arrange materials packed by loads and by flight details, to ensure easy and accurate retrieval by the Cabin Groomers team without any flight delays.
* Compute and report actual monthly materials utilization by material category to compare with standard materials utilization for feed back to Warehouse and Catering management to ensure standards are aligned to the actual operations.
* Compile monthly blankets and headsets losses and communicate to Catering to ensure replenishments are timely done for continuity of business support.
* Compiling monthly magazines and newspapers receipts from vendors to ensure timely processing of payments to the vendors and regular uninterrupted supplies from vendors.

Responsibilities

* The incumbent will plan and direct semiochemical ecology work to support the implementation of environmentally acceptable interventions to manage Bactrocera invadens (an invasive fruit fly of mango) and two cashew mirids.
* Lead a balanced basic and applied research programme targeted towards developing new female-biased attractants from blends of host fruit volatiles for monitoring, mass trapping and suppression.
* Explore the exact identity of key ligands from host fruit volatiles using linked gas chromatography-single sensillum recordings (SSR).
* Develop and formulate blends of compounds, carry out field testing of the compounds in comparison with standard food attractants, as well as quantifying their impact on the target pests and their compatibility with other IPM packages.
* Expected to be among a team conducting complementary field suppression studies that incorporate entomopathogens, classical biological control, bait-based technology, and use of soft pesticide in an integrated system to manage other pests such as indigenous fruit fly, mango seed weevil and coreid pests.
* The position requires cooperation with on-station research personnel in complementary disciplines and with NARS and mango and cashew growers in target countries. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be based at icipe’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, but will be expected to spend a portion of his/her time at Max Planck Institute of Chemical Ecology, Jena, Germany to participate in complementary research on fruit flies.

Requirements

The suitable candidate should have:

* PhD in entomology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry or any related biological science field with no more than 3 years experience
* Excellent background in chemical ecology techniques (for example bioassay guided micro-identification of compounds, field assays, arthropod electrophysiology, gas chromatography and mass spectra analyses)
* Good oral and written scientific communication skills
* Oriented towards good scientific output
* Proficiency in English language (with French as an added advantage)

About this job

Purpose: To build the capacity of local implementing partners (LIPs) to effectively deliver the Kenya Mentor
Mother Program (KMMP) according to national guidelines. Each position works in close collaboration with key m2m and MOH colleagues. The positions report to the Senior Program Manager and are based in Nairobi and Kisumu respectively.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

• Support senior staff to select LIPs for engagement and facilitate initial orientations
• Support the development of m2m’s capacity building program for LIPs, including defining objectives and developing program resource materials
• Coordinate LIP engagement at the regional level and engage programmatic staff within each LIP organization, building effective relationships and cultivating commitment
• Conduct external assessments of LIPs in relation to defined national guidelines
• Develop workplans for services to be delivered to each LIP
• Facilitate training to LIPs on standardized content
• Provide ongoing tailored support to LIPs aligned to identified support needs
• Draw on m2m service delivery at model sites to capacitate LIPs, in partnership with the Regional Manager
• Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of capacity building interventions and promote program quality
• Gather and disseminate lessons learned and best practices, and contribute to report writing for donors and other key stakeholders

Qualifications and Experience Required:

• Experience with managing USG-funded health programs a distinct advantage
